He pleaded guilty to the felony, which carries a potential sentence of 71/2 to 15 years in state prison. On Aug. 12, Mead supplied his father's gold Nissan Altima to four acquaintances intent on robbing local carpenter Jason Violette, 29, of Derry.
Violette exchanged blows with one of the men, Christopher Gagne, who allegedly fired a fatal shot into Violette's chest.
"Mr. Mead heard the gunshot from where he was sitting in the car," Assistant Attorney General James Boffetti said yesterday.
Defense lawyer Donald Blaszka refused to comment on yesterday's hearing. Breast Cancer Fleece Jacket Judge Kenneth McHugh ordered Mead to be held without bail and said his sentencing would be postponed indefinitely.
Gagne, 26, of Manchester is scheduled to go to trial Dec. 1 on charges of seconddegree murder and conspiracy to commit burglary. His alleged partners, Jordan Webster, 19, of Derry, Troy Whipple, 25, of Manchester and Andre Rivera, 20, of Derry are facing similar charges of accomplice to seconddegree murder and conspiracy to commit burglary.
Prosecutors have yet to seek an indictment against Rivera, according to a check of county court the north face women s pink ribbon denali jacket records.
Dressed in a white collared shirt and dark pants, Mead appeared solemn as McHugh quizzed him about waiving his rights to a grand jury and trial.
Boffetti said during the hearing the state is confident they could prove Mead's role in the Aug. 12 slaying.
Mead met with Gagne, Webster and Rivera earlier that day at a friend's apartment on South Street, where they agreed to rob Violette's drug or money stash, according to Boffetti.
Whipple allegedly chose Violette as their target, according to court records. Days before the murder, Whipple told Rivera he had bought marijuana from Violette in the past, affidavits say. Violette was known to keep large sums of cash in the house as well.
Rivera introduced Whipple to Gagne, and the group began planning how to rob Violette. Boffetti said Mead expected to get a share of the robbery proceeds for supplying the car. Rivera drove to Violette's home on Hampstead Road, because Mead did not have a driver's license at the time, Boffetti said.
Violette lived in his family's house on Hampstead Road, in a bottomfloor apartment.
Boffetti said Gagne and others donned bandannas and gloves before approaching Violette's home. A friend found Violette face down in his kitchen just minutes after he was shot and the alleged robbers had fled, police said. Derry police received a major tip four days after the murder from a caller who identified Gagne, Webster and Mead as those responsible for the killing.
